Description
This is a story about the miracle of language—something only human beings, among all living creatures, have the ability to create. It is a book about the RHETORIC–RHETOTHERAPY method, which I developed based on more than twenty years of experience working with audiences.
— Donaldas Duškinas, lecturer, rhetoric and conscious breathing teacher
Rhetoric. One of humanity’s oldest arts, often understood as the ability to speak persuasively, present oneself, or manipulate an audience. But that is only the tip of the iceberg. What lies beneath the surface? What is the true essence of rhetoric?
Rhetoric is the art of free people. Rhetotherapy is a way to achieve that freedom.
By learning rhetoric, we not only learn how to speak and defend our arguments persuasively, but also come to know ourselves better. We learn to relax, recognise what we fear and what we desire. We learn to stand up for our truth, our beliefs, and our perspective. We learn to experience the pause.
Rhetoric is conscious speaking – a way of communicating that is entirely different from the habitual, unconscious stream of words we are used to.

Our breathing. Whoever controls their breathing controls the situation. How do I breathe?
Our body. Is my body merely a frame to support my head, or a temple in which God resides?
Our voice. What is “my” voice like? How do I find it?
